Why your current meals are making you fat! High carb isnāt the problem! High fat isnāt the problem! High Fat AND High Carb ARE the problems together! Sadly, 90% of your meals are high-fat, high-carb. So what gives?! šEnter the Randall Cycle that your body uses every time you eat Carbs and Fats.
What is the Randall Cycle? š Scientific Definition:
The Randall Cycle, first proposed by Sir Philip RandleĀ in the 1960s, refers to the competition between glucose and fatty acid oxidationĀ in muscle and other tissues. When glucose is abundant (especially after eating carbs), it suppresses the oxidation (burning) of fats. This is regulated by insulin and key enzymes in the metabolic pathways.
Ok science is COOL right and sometimes very hard to understand! šHow I learned in school when it was hard to understand: Having dyslexia, I had a very hard time learning in school, school sucked in the beginning! To make school fun, I had to reteach myself the knowledge. I did this by drawing pictures and making up my own meanings and definitions. This relearning tool helped me immensely, plus helped me become a good artist. If you know me, I love movies and have been in a few movies and TV's shows myself. Here is a movie version explaining the Randall Cycle and how it effects weight gain and metabolic mayhem.
š Captain Carbohydrate vs. The Fatman: The Battle for Your Belly

š¬Ā Scene 1: The Metabolism Metropolis
Your body is a city called Metabolism Metropolis. This city runs on energy, and it has two main fuel delivery superheroes:
𦸠Captain CarbohydrateĀ ā Fast, flashy, and always first in line. He brings quick energy from things like bread, pasta, sugar, and fruit.
𦹠The FatmanĀ ā Slow, steady, and powerful. He brings long-term energy from fatālike butter, cheese, oils, and even your own stored belly fat.
But hereās the thing: š«Ā Only one can hero can enter the city's Power Plant at a time!
ā”Ā Scene 2: Captain Carbohydrate Takes Over
You eat a meal with lots of carbs.šš„š
Captain Carbohydrate bursts through the city gates like:
āStep aside, people! Iāve got sugar to burn!ā
The Power Plant (your metabolism) welcomes him in.
InsulinĀ (the energy traffic cop) signals:
āOnly Captain Carbohydrate is allowed in! Fatmanāstand down!ā
Result: The Fatman gets blocked and is told to wait in storageĀ (your fat cells). But then...
šĀ Scene 3: The Fatman Shows Up Too!
You also ate fatsĀ in the same meal.š§šš§(Hamburger, fries & Pop)
The Fatman shows up late with a big supply of energy.
But Captain Carbohydrate is already inside!
Insulin yells:
āNope! Sorry Fatman, weāre burning carbs right now, just Store that fat!ā
Result: The Fatmanās energy gets locked up in storageāaka your belly, hips, and thighs. š¦š„Ā Thatās fat gain.
šĀ Scene 4: The Cycle Continues
Every time you eat a combo of carbs and fats, the same thing happens:
Captain Carbohydrate runs the show.
The Fatman gets benched.
Your fat stores grow.
šcarbsĀ + š§fatsĀ = āEat now, store for laterā! Unfortunately, ālaterā never comes if you keep eating this way!
š§ Ā Lesson from Metabolism Metropolis:
If you always invite Captain Carbohydrate to dinner, The Fatman never gets a chance to shine ā and he ends up stuck in storage.
There you go, how I remember the Randall Cycle.
